My Favorite Book

The article written by Isidro Carter

My favorite book is The Black Stallion by Walter Farley. I read this book when I was a child and this book, along with the complete follow-up series has remained one of my top favorite reads over decades. Interesting, engaging, and filled with action-packed adventure, The Black Stallion is a wonderful read that both kids and adults can enjoy.

In the beginning of the book, the main character, Alex Ramsey, is a young boy who is in a ship wreck. Also on the ship is a wild black stallion from the Arabian Desert. Though he is a wild and untamed stallion and the boy is young and unfamiliar with horses, they are the only two creatures on the island other than venomous snakes and other wild habitat. The boy and horse form a bond that is unbreakable and Alex begins spending his days riding the thrillingly fast stallion over the beaches of the island.

Once they are rescued, after several weeks spent stranded together, the boy takes the horse back to the United States with him where he meets a professional race horse trainer. Demonstrating incomparable speed, The Black, as the horse is known, is set to race against the nation’s leading Thoroughbreds in a match race. I have found that though I enjoy watching Direct.TV when I am not reading, that this books is a favorite of my collection.

Reaching out for the coffee while driving

My husband’s co-working was on graveyard shift when this happened. According to the incident report, my husband’s co-worker was doing a road test of the bus at that time and while he was driving to the shop, he hit a stationary service truck that was parked on the side of the road. How? Well, he was trying to reach for his coffee and he didn’t realize that there was a stationary truck ahead of him at the right hand side of the bus. My husband’s co-worker is really in trouble and he might lose his job too. The owner of the service truck that got hit probably didn’t know yet because until now the truck was still there and hasn’t been touched yet. He filed a police report about the incident though. Now the company that my husband works for has to pay for the damages that his co-worker had done. I’m sure that the owner of that truck will find out after the thanksgiving holiday when everyone goes back to work. Bummer! The moral lesson is that we all need to become a responsible driver. Nevertheless, if we are driving, our eyes should only be focused on the road ONLY! No distraction, so there will be no accidents.
